Grade Calculator

Use one assessment or a points-based course total, not weighted categories. Total points must be greater than zero; each points field supports up to 1 trillion. Decimal points are allowed. Earned points above the total are treated as extra credit, not capped. Processing stays in your browser.

Points-based grade estimate84%

Example letter grade: B

Total points for target45
Additional points to target3

The shortfall is on this same assessment total; it is not a required future-exam score. Fractional target points are not rounded up. Follow your teacher’s permitted point increments.

Example scale: A ≥90%, B ≥80%, C ≥70%, D ≥60%, F below 60%. Letter grades use the unrounded score; displayed numbers round to 12 significant digits. Your course policy may differ.

HOW IT WORKS

Use the grade calculator in seconds

For one assessment or a points-based course total, divide earned points by total points and multiply by 100. Total points must be positive; blanks, negative or out-of-range values show an error instead of a grade. Each points field supports up to 1 trillion. Extra credit above the total is allowed and can exceed 100%. Target points equal total points times target percentage divided by 100; the shortfall is the additional points needed on that same total, not a required future-exam score. Displayed results round to 12 significant digits; example A–F letters use unrounded scores. This does not calculate weighted categories, predict official grades or replace course policy.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Grade Calculator: an example

42 out of 50 is 84% (example B). A 90% target needs 45 total points, so the shortfall is 3 points, not the 8 points between 42 and 50.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Grade Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate my test grade?

Divide points earned by total points, then multiply by 100.

What letter-grade scale does this use?

The example scale uses the unrounded percentage: A at least 90, B at least 80, C at least 70, D at least 60, and F below 60. These boundaries are illustrative; your teacher may use different rules.

How do I find the points needed for a target grade?

Multiply total points by the target percentage divided by 100. Subtract points already earned for the shortfall, with zero if the target is met. Fractional targets are not rounded up; use your teacher’s allowed point increments.

Does this support extra credit or weighted categories?

Earned points can exceed total points for extra credit, without capping the percentage. Weighted categories and required future-exam scores are not supported. Follow the weighting and extra-credit policy in your syllabus.
