Percentage Calculator

Blank, malformed and out-of-range values do not produce a result. “What percent” requires a nonzero second value. Percentage change requires an original value greater than zero and uses it as the denominator. Inputs support ±1 quadrillion; processing stays in your browser.

Result30

20 ÷ 100 × 150

Displayed with up to 12 significant digits.

HOW IT WORKS

Use the percentage calculator in seconds

Choose a percentage of a number, a percent ratio, or change from an original value. Blank, malformed and out-of-range input suppresses the result instead of becoming zero. A percent ratio requires a nonzero second value. Percentage change subtracts the original value from the new value, divides by the original, then multiplies by 100; the original must be greater than zero. Negative change is labelled as a decrease, while equal values show no change. Inputs are bounded to ±1 quadrillion, and results display up to 12 significant digits. These are mathematical estimates; context-specific reporting rules may differ.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Percentage Calculator: an example

15% of 200 is 30. From 200 to 230 is a 15% increase; from 200 to 150 is a −25% change, labelled Decrease.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Percentage Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Divide the percentage by 100, then multiply it by the number. For example, 20% of 150 is 0.20 × 150 = 30.

How do I find what percentage one number is of another?

Divide the first number by the second number, then multiply by 100. The second number cannot be zero; that ratio is undefined rather than 0%.

How is percentage change calculated?

Subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value, then multiply by 100. This calculator requires a positive original value so the denominator and direction remain meaningful.

What happens when the result is negative?

A negative percentage change is labelled as a decrease. For example, moving from 200 to 150 gives (150 − 200) ÷ 200 × 100 = −25%, a 25% decrease.
